Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark pushed through a sprained ankle early in the first quarter to avert Atlanta Dream’s last-ditch efforts with an 84-79 cliffhanger, eking out a 14-16 standing on the Women’s National Basketball Association regular season, played in the State Farm Arena, last August 27, 2024.

Despite a moment of concern, Clark pushed through, delivering a strong performance with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, one block, and two steals in 37 minutes, showcasing the team’s strength and securing the victory.

“I honestly felt a bit concerned at first, but I quickly realized it wasn’t that serious and quickly stood up,” Clark told reporters.

Inspired by Clark’s impactful play, Kelsey Mitchell, a guard for the Indiana Fever, delivered an outstanding performance of her own, scoring 29 points with seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal, which clinched her the MVP title.

Both teams struggled to consistently display their skills as they exchanged leads throughout the game.

Despite an injury seven minutes in, the Fever ramped up their defense, securing 17 rebounds and entangling their opponents in a defensive web. This effort helped them close the first quarter with a 22-17 lead in their favor.

With the momentum built from the early success, the Fever continued their domination until the third with consistent double-digit leads from threes rained when the Dreams weren’t looking.

The Fever’s mood quickly shifted as their opponents, bolstered by defensive stops, narrowed the lead to just two points with three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, leaving the Fever feeling the pressure.

But seizing the moment with poise, they delivered a decisive layup that quelled the Dream’s surge of momentum, clinching the game with a final score of 84-79.

On the other hand, the Dream had an opportunity to capitalize on a late surge in the final stretch of regulation, but they ultimately couldn’t overcome the Fever’s relentless strength, falling just short.

The Indiana Fever will move on to the next set of regular season games to enhance their position in the season standings. – BusinessNews.ph
